Fall Things in VA

Hiking in the fall is stunning, but there are so many other things to see here this time of the year. Here are a few places we have enjoyed during this fall season!

Chiles Peach Orchard & Farm Market:

This is a cute place not to far from our place in Waynesboro. This time of the hear they sell apples and pumpkins rather than peaches. Their apple cider is amazing along with their apple cider donuts! The little market has tons of cute things to take home. Next door is a Prince Michel Winery tasting room and Bold Rock Hard Cider. We decided to do a flight from each place and sit outside and play cards.

Kings Family Vineyard:

This is right down the road from the orchard. They have lots of events if you look at their schedule online. You can catch a polo match, sunsets on Wednesdays, and more!

Sunsets in Shenandoah

Being so close to a national park, you have to see as much as possible! There are a few great spots to watch the sunset, but we have really enjoyed the views at Calf Mountain Overlook. I think it's about 30 minutes from us here in Waynesboro and we always seem to be rushing to get up there. Once we get there, we never regret it! Bring a blanket, cards, food, and sit and relax as you watch a beautiful sunset. We brought Aaron's cousin and his fiance to this sunset and they loved it!

Blue Ridge Bucha

We have driven by this place every time we go to Shenandoah or the Blue Ridge Parkway and we never stopped! Finally we visited while Aaron's cousin and his fiance were here and we absolutely loved it. You can taste all of their kombucha, that is brewed there, for only $5! Totally worth a stop even if you end up hating it. The staff is very intelligent and can tell you a lot about the business!

Shenandoah Beerwerks trail

This is something that takes a few days to complete, unless you have a driver and feel comfortable going to 8 breweries in one day! We found out about this in our first few weeks here in the area. Visiting one of the local breweries in Waynesboro, Staunton, Harrisonburg, or Lexington you collect a 'passport' and at 8 different breweries you obtain a stamp. After 8 breweries, you send it in and get a free t-shirt! We started this at Seven Arrows Brewing Company and finished at Queen City Brewing Company!

We stayed in the Waynesboro and Staunton area and had such a fun time! Our favorites were Skipping Rock, Basic City, and Redbeard Brewing Company! Skipping Rock has a fun 'Framily Feud' on Thursdays that we went to with our next door neighbor and had a great time! If you've read my other posts, we have been to Basic City, who knows how many times. Redbeard has amazing beer and their food looks great. All in all, it was such a fun time and now we have our t-shirts!

Swannanoa

A beautiful home built in 1912 by James H. Dooley, a millionaire and philanthropist, rests just above the Blue Ridge Mountains. The home is now for people to visit and take tours of. Prior to that Dooley and his family lived there, well as a summer home. He was a lawyer, philanthropist, business leader, and politician who had over 300 artisans build this home. It took them 8 years and it was all built with marble. It is stunning! Unfortunately, it was abandoned for years so a lot of it needs to be fixed up. The money given goes towards refurbishing and this is only open in the summer and fall months!

There are so many things to do in this area during the fall, but these are a few places we enjoyed exploring!
