Key West

What would an assignment in Florida be if one weekend wasn't spent in Key West? After finding a weekend we could all go, Aaron, his cousin Anthony, and his fiance Jina, we finally set off on the Key West Express from Fort Myers Beach. We left early on a Friday and had plans to come back on Sunday around 6 pm. For those who do not want to stay the night, you can go for just the day! You would have roughly 6 hours to spend there, but I'd suggest staying the night to get the full experience.

Once we arrived, we went to Cuban Coffee Queen to get our coffee and tea fixes.

We stayed at the Gate Hotel Key West which is about a 15-20 minute ride from downtown. Our hotel offered a shuttle and there are bike rentals which are very popular! We quickly dropped off our stuff and headed downtown! We walked around in lots of little shops until we found ourselves at Sloppy Joe's Bar.

Then we took a walk to the Southern Most Point!

After we had a surprising experience at The Garden of Eden where clothing is optional, we quickly left and went to Irish Kevin's Bar to eat!

After that, we went to The Green Room which had their opening night. One thing to keep in mind in Key West is to bring CASH! Lots of places only accept cash or prefer cash over credit. While we were hanging out here, we had fresh coconut water from a coconut cut off a tree in front of us!

We played corn hole, jenga...and we saw a 'Mentalist' or also called a magician. We were amazed by what he could do and couldn't stop talking about it for the rest of the night. We went to a few other places before heading back on the last shuttle to the hotel.

The next morning we went to breakfast at Moondog Cafe. It was delicious!

While sitting at breakfast we all talked about what we would like to do that day... and the final decision was jet skiing. We accidentally walked the wrong direction, but found a great place to take pictures.

Eventually we took an Uber to Ibis Bay Paddle Sports where we rented 2 jet skis and went on a guided tour of the entire island! It was a blast! We saw turtles and Spotted eagle rays and learned fun facts about the island. Afterwards he showed us a jelly fish that doesn't sting you!

That evening we went to Mallory Square to watch the sunset!

There are tons of street performers during this time and we enjoyed watching them as well.

The next day we walked to Blue Heaven for breakfast.

Thankfully the walk was fun, but there was a 1.5 hour wait and we were starving. We headed over to the restaurant across the street instead, La Creperie French Cafe Key West.

We hung out at the hotel pool for the rest of the day. The Blue Angels were also in town, so we could see them from our hotel!

That evening we got on the boat to head back to Fort Myers! It was beautiful to watch the sunset from the boat.

We had such an amazing time in Key West! Anthony and Jina had to work the following day, but Aaron and I headed to the Everglades! Be on the look out for the blog post!
