The Great New York State Fair

One of the biggest events in Syracuse is the Great New York State Fair which takes place at the end of August. This fair brings in everything and anything you can think of. Food, wild birds, giraffes, divers, bands, and more, but most importantly 25 cent milk!

My brother Ryan loves going on the roller coasters, so we take one day just for him to get an all day ride pass.

Sometimes we get lucky enough to sneak him away from the rides and enjoy some of the interesting fair food. Pictured above is loaded ribbon fries (Bacon, mac n cheese, ketchup, and jalapenos).

We usually stop and get a Sunday, just because we have a coupon. Before going to the fair, check online for coupons! It is a great way to explore different things at the fair that you wouldn't think to. Also, with this coupon we got a free water. At the fair, water is now $2 a bottle, everywhere! So a word of advice, bring your own empty bottle and fill it up at the water fountains in the new Expo Center. It is located near the rides. Usually it is very hot at the fair, so staying hydrated is a high priority besides having fun!

At the Expo Center we found picture opportunities like the one above and below. Inside had an I love Upstate NY feel, where there were videos of various places to go in New York. There is also a sand sculpture that is a must see!

Pictured above you might notice the little "Whiteface Mt" sign. For those who have read my other blog posts, that is one of the 46 peaks my friend Chelsea and I will be hiking within the next 10 years! Even if you don't want to hike it, it is a great place for skiing or just sight seeing and taking the ski lift up!

The following day, it was just my dad and I! Our day is usually filled with a lot of food...

A MUST DO at the fair is have a baked potato for $1 (extra for toppings).

Last year we had the Defibrillator...no we did not have one each, we split it. This year we had the Heart Attack, pictured below!

Pictured above is a delicious burger, if you like shrimp! It is a shrimp burger and it was delicious. Another must try at the fair is the doughnut burger, which we had last year...so that makes 3 burgers to try (The Defibrillator, a shrimp, and doughnut burger).

Below we went to one of the many shows at the fair and saw various wild birds including, the most important one, a Bald Eagle. We learned that they hang around highways very often, so be sure to be on the lookout!

At the fair you also have the opportunity to feed some farm animals and see a cow give birth! Last year we were able to, and I would not suggest it if you have a sensitive stomach, otherwise it was awesome!

In the Dairy building, where you'll find the best milk ever for 25 cents, you'll also see the butter sculpture which is different every year, just like the sand sculpture. Also in the Dairy building is a roast beef Sunday! Roast beef, mashed potatoes, topped with a cherry tomato!

For the second year in a row we saw the divers which is an awesome show! This was the last thing we did before leaving the fair this year and now we wait until next year to divulge in it all over again!
