Eat & Drink Helena, MT

After posting places to eat and drink in Reno, NV, I thought, maybe I should do this everywhere we go! So, here are the places we ate and drank while we spent 4 amazing months in Montana.

Food

Benny's Bistro

We were walking around downtown Helena deciding where to eat one evening and came across this restaurant. This is a farm to table restaurant so the menu can change and the specials do as well. We loved everything here and the service was great.

Windbag Saloon

Windbag Saloon we went to a few times. The food was always good and it is in a convenient location.

Aaron almost always ordered their wings extra crispy, sauce on the side. They were always good! During the holiday season, they came out with their Christmas Cocktail Menu which included mock-tails.

They also have live music here on some nights.

Bullman's Wood Fired Pizza

We ordered take out here one night after hanging out with Wrigley all day. The salads were super fresh and the pizza was really good as well. Highly recommend!

On Broadway

We went here the most out of any place in Helena. We absolutely love On Broadway. All of the food is delicious. The service is great and they have a wide variety of foods. Of course, Aaron ordered the Ribeye Steak Broadway every...time.

We went here for my birthday dinner after work. They even put a candle in my carrot cake!

This is also where we ate our last meal in Helena!

Parrot Confectionery Store

My mom and I were walking around downtown and were starting to get hungry and cold. We walked in here and ordered some chili and a fountain drink. I am glad I started to like chili since on a cold day, it is the perfect thing to warm you up!

Broadwater Hot Springs

Broadwater Hot Springs not only has hot springs, but it also has a restaurant. The wings were really good the first time we went, but the second time we were not as impressed with the wings. Everything else is really good. They do have a bar here, but it only serves beer and wine.

Wassweiler

Aaron and I go to our own families homes every year for Christmas, so we celebrate just before flying home. I saw online that the Wassweiler does these igloos you can rent for I believe $20 and they will serve you dinner inside. It was the perfect way to have our Christmas dinner. They also have a great shop with lots of Montana made gifts.

Downstairs at the Brewhouse

Aaron and I loved coming here after work to grab a quick bite to eat. This might sound crazy, but the buffalo chicken wing dip is delicious! We ordered that every time we went here.

Ristorante Bella Roma

We went here with my mom while she was in town. We loved the Italian atmosphere and the food is delicious. They have a deal where it is 4 courses, appetizer, salad, entrée, and dessert all for $90 per person. It was a great deal since we all wanted steak!

Aaron and I went again after we went to the symphony to watch Steffen play. We met Steffen, the first chair violinist, at Miller's Crossing our first night in Helena. We exchanged numbers and he saved 2 tickets for us to go watch him play. Since we were all dressed up, Aaron and I headed over to the fancy Bella Roma.

Old Salt Outpost

Anne invited us out to Old Salt Outpost opening night and we are so glad we went. The food is delicious and quick. You have to get the potatoes! Doug's band was playing too so we danced all night!

Mediterranean Grill

One day before working 3 shifts in a row, Aaron and I did not feel like making lunch, so we headed over here! The sandwiches are good and so are the soups!

Lakeside on Hauser

Aaron and I wanted to go somewhere new so we headed here on a whim. Everything was good, but keep in mind, it is a more limited menu. Lakeside also has bands, a fire pit out back, and great views of Hauser Lake. This is about 15 minutes or so from Helena.

Nosh Cafe

Amy, one of my co-workers, and I would go hiking about once a week to Mount Helena at 8am. One morning Aaron said he would meet me after for breakfast! So, we went to Nosh Cafe. The food here was great! Aaron had chicken and waffles and I had a salmon sandwich. It was all delicious and fresh.

Steve's Cafe

Aaron and I went here with my mom while she was visiting. They have a huge menu and were walking distance from where we were renting. We were happy to walk some food off after!

Big Dipper Ice Cream

Who doesn't love locally made ice cream? Aaron and I bought a pint here one night and wanted to go back for a waffle cone. We brought my cousin Jon while he was visiting. Even though it was cold outside, ice cream is always good.

Silver Star Steak Company

While my cousin Jon was visiting, we went here for dinner. It is a little more upscale, like Bella Roma and Off Broadway. Everything was really good and they have great wine!

Drink

Headwaters Crafthouse

Aaron and I walked here from our place to check it out one evening. They have a wide variety of beers and ciders. They do not serve food, but you can have food delivered there or bring you own!

Lewis and Clark Brewing Company

This was also walking distance from our place! We walked here one night after going to Downstairs at the Brewhouse. The inside is huge and they have a nice outdoor area to sit as well.

We came here another time with some friends and decided to order food. We were greatly disappointed in the nachos. Stick with the beer here!

The Hawthorn Bottle shop and Tasting Room

While Aaron and I were waiting for our table to Benny's Bistro, we headed over here to grab a drink. We were able to bring the drinks outside and took them up to the parking garage so we could have views of the walking mall.

Ten Mile Creek Brewing Company

Aaron and I went here a couple times as it is right downtown! They have kombucha on tap too. We brought our little man Wrigley here and everyone loved to pet him. Dogs are not allowed inside any of the breweries or restaurants in Helena. Thankfully they have heaters for us to sit outside!

Blackfoot River Brewing Company

After we went to Ten Mile, we walked over to Blackfoot River Brewing Company. We had to sit outside, which we were prepared for, and people thought for sure we were locals! They said, "You know you are from Montana when you sit outside in this!". Well, really we just wanted to do things with Wrigley. If that meant sitting outside to drink a beer, so be it!

Gulch Distillers

My mom is definitely who I got all my planning from. She arrived to Helena with pages of things to do in the area. Gulch Distillers was one of them. We headed on over and loved the cocktails!

We also brought my cousin Jon here.

Missouri River Brewing Company

One of Aarons patient's recommended we come here! The beers are great and I think here and Copper Furrow Brewing are our two favorite places. They also do not serve food, but you can bring your own!

We came here with my cousin Jon and Grace's husband Matt. We brought 'What Do You Meme' and had an awesome time playing as we enjoyed our beers.

The Gold Bar and the Western, Millers Crossing

The only picture we have from being at these places is the one below. Millers Crossing is in a different area of downtown, but The Gold Bar and the Western are connected and that is where this picture was taken. They have live music and we saw Doug play twice here. Anne is on the left and on the right is Matt! One of these days we will get a picture with Grace, she took the photo.

Copper Furrow Brewing

The first time we ever hung out with Grace and Matt was when we met up at Copper Furrow Brewing. We brought snacks, since they as well do not serve food. We all sat there and got to know each other while enjoying beer and snacks!

Some people say there isn't good food in Helena, we beg to differ. We had an amazing experience trying new places to eat and drink in Helena. Hopefully one day we can go back and try them again!
