Los Liones Canyon & The Hollywood Sign

Our contract in LA was set to be done mid February, but we started talking and decided to EXTEND! Even though I told Aaron I am done extending because ever since we started traveling together we have extended...BUT 3:1 ratios on MedSurg/Telemetry floors are pretty hard to beat and with COVID numbers going down, we did not want to risk getting canceled.

Part of our extension was to have a week off in between the contracts. During that time, Brad, Aaron's brother, also had the week off. It worked perfectly! So he flew in and we did a ton of adventures from hiking and even driving to San Diego. These are two hikes we did while he was here.

The first day Brad was visiting we grabbed food and then headed home to relax. That evening I planned for us to hike at Los Liones Canyon. There are a few trails there and you can make it as long or as short of a hike as you would prefer. We decided to hike to the Paseo Miramar Viewpoint. The hike is all uphill and I believe it was around 3 miles in total, I'd say it was a moderate hike.

The entire way up you are surrounded by amazing views of the Pacific Ocean and LA.

At the top there is a large area to enjoy the views and there are benches as well.

On the way down, we were able to catch the sunset.

I definitely recommend this hike if you're in the area and looking for views with a little workout.

Fast forward to Brad's last day visiting, we headed to the Hollywood sign. A tourist, but yet bucket list hike you have to do! There are multiple trails to the Hollywood sign so it was difficult to figure out what we wanted to do. We got a late start on the trail and we headed for the Hollyridge Trail to Hollywood Sign Viewpoint. This was about 5 miles round trip, but there is a trail that goes up and behind the Hollywood sign that is 8.7 miles according to All Trails. I did some research online, there is a trail that goes up around the sign that is shorter, but the starting point of the trail has restricted parking/no parking so we decided we would play it safe and go to Griffith Park to start the hike, where there is a ton of parking.

On the way up you are greeted by these amazing views as your heart rate is climbing from the uphill trek to the top.

Once at the end of the trail you're able to catch these amazing views of the sign and snap a few pictures before the relaxing downhill trek.

This hike is definitely more strenuous than Los Liones, but well worth it!
