Marina Del Ray and Ventura are two beach towns that are very close to us. Marina Del Ray we visited when Brad was here and is about 30 minutes away. Ventura is a nice beach town just north of Santa Barbara that Aaron and I went to!
When Aaron went to pick up Brad at the airport, I figured we could meet them somewhere near the water for brunch. I researched a few places and found Whiskey Red's Restaurants & Events located right on the water. It was pretty busy on a Saturday so definitely have a reservation made.
Aaron had a lobster roll, Brad chicken wings, and Meredith and I had omelets. The food was ok... I think I will stick with only ordering lobster rolls in Cape Cod, I think Aaron agrees...but the atmosphere was great. Who can complain eating next to the water? When we were done, we walked around the little shops and checked out the boats in the marina.
After that, we hiked at Los Leones Canyon which you can check that blog post out!
Another day Aaron and I headed up to Ventura to check it out. One of my patients talked highly of Ventura. It is much more laid back and casual compared to where we are right now which was really nice.
First stop was the Ventura Pier.
We walked around there watching people fish and there were a few Volkswagen Vanagons in the parking lot that we checked out since I love them! Then we headed to Main Street which has a ton of places to eat, drink, and shop. We decided to eat at Fluid State Beer Garden. There was a wait so we walked up and down Main Street.
When we got back our table was not ready, but they have a to go window where you can order drinks while you wait. So we did that and soon enough our table was ready! Main Street is blocked off from cars so it makes it nice for restaurants to have outdoor seating. They put in fake grass and nice picnic tables here to give it a garden feel. It was super cute!
Wings and garlic fries... Aaron's favorite things. The food was good as was the beer! When we walked back down to the car parked at the beach, we caught a glimpse of the sunset too.
Ventura and Marina Del Ray were both really cute little towns to check out even while things were not completely open!
