My boyfriend Nicholas came to visit and we explored many of the things Albany and the surrounding cities have to offer. We started with hiking Prospect Mountain up in Lake George. Prospect Mountain is a pretty popular hike for people around here and definitely is not easy, but is worth it! People can also drive up to the top and see the views!
Afterwards we went to Saratoga Springs to visit his cousin and her boyfriend. We walked around Saratoga, checked out some bars and ate food at Druthers Brewing Company. I even was able to meet up with a friend from college who now lives there!
Every Saturday there is a Troy Farmers Market that I have been eager to check out. There were tons of stands and things to buy! We had an apple candy waffle that was absolutely delicious. We also went wine tasting at Hudson-Chatham winery located in Troy.
Nicholas and I have been wanting to check out a water fall so we went to Kaaterskill Falls in the Catskills. It was roughly an hour drive south from Albany and we had to hike a little bit to get to the water fall. The hike in isn't bad, but I would not want to do it in flip flops! We ended up hiking all the way down to the lower falls and realized we missed the turn off. We hiked back up and were rewarded with beautiful views of the water fall and a little swimming hole at the bottom.
After enjoying the water fall, we went back to Albany and had reservations at the Speakeasy in downtown Albany! The Speakeasy does not allow any phones so we left them in the car. We had no idea what time it was the entire night. The drinks were very strong and the drinks were ok. I thought it was odd they had a live band which was loud enough we could hear it outside the restaurant. Maybe they do that on Saturdays! After going there, we went to the City Beer Hall and split a small pizza with our beers. If you spend over $6 there, you get a free little pizza!
The next day we decided to take a trip up to Saratoga Springs again. Parking there can be difficult especially on the weekends. Once we found parking we walked around the little shops and stopped in the Saratoga Tea and Honey Company. After smelling a variety of teas, trying matcha, and tasting their selection of honey, we both decided to get a cup of tea! They have a little bar where you can sit and sip tea and we really enjoyed it.
After spending time there we went to a little candy shop before heading north to Lake George. Nicholas was amazed at how clear the water was. We decided to walk in the water at the beach in the village and cool off. Then we went to Capri Pizzeria and Restaurant where we got one tomato pinwheel, one garlic knot, and one slice of pizza. There are lots of little shops in Lake George, one of them being an infused Olive Oil and Vinegar store, my favorite.
We had an amazing time exploring what the city of Albany and the surrounding cities have to offer, and of course there is so much more to see!
