Beginning Adventures in Tahoe

Reno, Nevada for the summer, who would've thought? Not us! We were planning to head to Montana since last summer that did not happen due to COVID (and then we bought a condo in Lake Havasu City and well, you can ready about it if you don't already know). Anyway, we heard a lot of people enjoyed Reno, NV on their travel assignments so when we were job searching for over a month we said lets just get submitted and see what happens.

Finally while we were visiting Colorado, we got an interview with the Renown Neuroscience floor manager. The down side was, we had to switch companies, but it was also a positive since we were back with my very first company and recruiter Megan who I loved working with! You can see when I visited her in Denver under my Grand Junction tab back in 2018 (gosh, I cannot believe I've been traveling this long)! Megan was such an awesome recruiter and the only reason I didn't stay with her was because of the job I was looking for at the time. Now we are back with Medical Solutions and so far are loving it! We loved AMN Healthcare as well, but it has been a nice switch thus far.

Soon after we arrived to Reno, we flew home to visit family for a week since our assignment didn't start right away. When we got back, my research and planning of what to do started while Aaron sat with hope that our hikes would be short and easy.

One of the first places we went to, besides CVS and Smiths, was Schussboom Brewing Company. We kept driving by it so we decided to go check it out. While we were there we decided to order some pizza. Their pizza was delicious!!

After that we headed to another place called Beer NV. While I was standing in line waiting for the bathroom, I started talking to the lady in front of me. Her husband has a Taco Truck and on Monday nights he parks it there. They all were very friendly and gave us a few ideas of where to go in the area and the most popular thing we heard from them and everyone else we talked to was, "Don't go to Tahoe on the weekends and definitely not near the 4th of July".

We left there with a small growler and finished it on our patio with our left over pizza.

The next day we headed down to Tahoe to check out Secret Cove. I didn't realize it was such a popular spot. I saw it on All Trails and it looked like an easy hike with good views of the water. Thankfully we went on a Saturday evening when most people were leaving so parking was not an issue. We then hiked down to the beautiful and clean Lake Tahoe!

Disclosure: Secret Cove is a nude friendly beach, so not a place for kids. It also is not so Secret.

We sat near the cove and enjoyed the water before heading back up. It is a pretty steep climb back up, but short!

When we started work we got our schedule and quickly realized that we work almost every weekend, which probably was for the best according to locals. Thankfully, we had the first weekend off because my friend Dana I met in Cape Cod had a planned trip to visit her friend in South Lake Tahoe! The week prior to her trip, she texted me asking where we accepted our assignment and when I said Reno, she said NO WAY! Dana has stopped traveling, but soon will be picking it back up, and has been in her home town in Nebraska for about a year now. The last time I saw her was in Virginia when she came down to Waynesboro for my birthday (December 2019)! We decided to meet up at Monkey Rock for a hike! If you ever go to Money Rock, park on the road and walk or else you'll pay a ridiculous fee for parking!

After the hike, we were going to go to the beach, but after driving around on a Saturday we quickly realized everything was full. So we stopped at a little place off the road and ate a snack on the lake.

It was so much fun to see her and I am so glad I was able to! Hopefully we don't go as long without seeing each other again!

That evening, Aaron and I headed to Homegrown Gastropub for dinner. A lot of people from work recommended this restaurant. Homegrown Gastropub serves all organic and locally sourced food making it a great spot to support the farms they get their produce from!

Everything was delicious. We both loved the Brussel sprouts and the cocktails were good too!

Then we walked to Reno Public House for a drink. They have a nice patio with lights to sit at too!

Another day we headed to Historic Stateline Fire Lookout for a nice walk. This trail is all paved and it is up hill, but the entire thing is less than 2.5 miles. At the top there are a few informational signs and we learned a little bit about Lake Tahoe!

Afterwards we went to Alibi Ale Works to have a few beers and fill up our growler.

We were planning to go to Incline Burgers and Brews, but they were so busy that day they ran out of food. They recommended we go to Crosby's Tavern & Gaming. The food here was all really good, but they were extremely busy as well so it took awhile for our food. It was worth the wait! They also have a nice patio out back, but there wasn't any seating available.

So far Reno has been really great. YES it has been hot, but it seems like everywhere is this summer. Spending last summer in Lake Havasu City taught us, go to the lake when it is hot! Well, you can find us there this summer, or somewhere in the mountains!
