Before the busy season on Cape Cod started, my friend Jordan from college and I headed over to Nantucket on the Hy-Line Cruises from Hyannis to Nantucket. The cape has so much to offer, but keep in mind many places are not open until 'season' which is after memorial day. Though a few places were not open yet, we were still able to enjoy Nantucket!
The boat takes maybe an hour and it drops you off in a perfect location to rent bikes, grab food, coffee, shop and more! We decided to check out the Whale Museum.
We learned a lot about whales...and didn't realize how big their teeth are!
There is a beautiful rooftop as well that we checked out. It gives great views! Too bad there are no food or drinks allowed!
After that we walked on the cobble stone streets to find that renting a bike is $40 per day. We were shocked! Nantucket is notorious for bike riding, but we decided to walk and take The Wave, which is a bus service! First we walked over to Brant Point Lighthouse.
Then we headed back to grab food at The Tavern at Harbor Square.
As we were walking out, we saw Jack and Charlies Ice Cream! I highly recommend the home made brownie waffle cone.
The bus station is not far from where the boat drops you off. One main thing to keep in mind about the bus is you must have exact cash to ride! It is $3 per person each way to go to Siasconset (Sconset) to check out The Bluff Walk to Sankaty Head Lighthouse. Finding where the beginning of the walk started was a bit of a challenge so I'd recommend picking up a little map at the bus station to help guide you (we had one, it helped).
The Bluff Walk is a very narrow trail that takes you behind beautiful beach homes (you're so close you can see inside), and on the other side you are looking down at the ocean. It is roughly 1.5 miles to the light house, but at one point you have to walk on the road due to erosion.
Sankaty Head Lighthouse has actually been moved due to erosion, which was 3 feet per year at one time!
On the way back we noticed there is one spot that you can walk down the stairs to the water, the rest are private.
We took the bus back and grabbed a drink at The Tavern. They have a little tiki bar near there to hangout near the water!
Then we headed back and threw a penny while making a wish as we passed the Brant Lighthouse which is also known to ensure you'll come back to the island one day!
