Sara Park

Sara Park is a regional park that is 1,100 acres is only 10 minutes from our condo! If you ever looked at my blog posts from Grand Junction, you'll see that I posted about a place called the Lunch Loop. This is similar to that. There are tons of trails, almost so many it can be hard to follow, and some people take their bicycles too!

The first day we went to check it out, we had planned to follow a trail we found on the All Trails App, but we started to pave our own path when we saw a trail that went up the side of a mountain. As we were hiking up, the views were beautiful!

Once we got to the top, there was a very small space to sit down, but once we did we were able to see how beautiful the landscape was around us.

We still are not sure what trail we went on, but we had so much fun and saw lots of little lizards. Afterwards we went to Barley Brother's Brewery for some beer and food.

We went to Sara Park again with my friend Danielle when she came to visit and did Lizard Peak (Blog post to come). Finally we did Sara's Crack the other day which is one of the most popular hikes in Sara Park. There were a few days of rain and people told us to wait for it to be sunny since water will fill it up. According to my All Trails App, it is almost a 5 mile hike. We did it in about 2 hours and the trail is easy to follow. It is a straight shot from the parking lot and you just go along in the river bed until you reach the lake! There is not much of an elevation gain, it's mostly trying to get through the crack that will take some time!

As you can see in the photo it gets pretty narrow and then you have to climb down this rope which mostly just gives you some stability. Aaron had no problem going through here since he has long legs, but for myself it was a little challenging to figure out where I could put my feet.

There is one part where you use a small ladder to climb around and over a large rock. Another part we realized is where the water fills up. There is a large board there that you can walk on to cross the water. If you can't see the board, you probably will be going through at least knee deep water or more. Some friends told us the water was up to their waist once! The water is gross too, so I wouldn't recommend doing it after a few days of rain.

Eventually the trail opens up to large mountains around you, similar to the beginning of the trail. Then you'll end up at the water!

The way back you can either go around the crack or back through it. We went around it since that's the trail we were following on the All Trails App. When you get to Sara Park there is a sign with all the trails in colors, we took the yellow trail and then blue back until it met back up with the yellow.

There are so many hikes to do at Sara Park! Sara Park is a great place in Lake Havasu City to go explore the outdoors.
