Saturday April 9

Waking up at Lake Powell Resort was peaceful and calming.

Our room had a balcony facing the lake so we were blessed with the sun rising and the silence of the lake. We headed over to get breakfast at the buffet which was reasonably priced and delicious! The views from the table were beautiful too.

Be prepared that they do have servers so when you’re ready to leave you have to wait for them to give you your check. This delayed us as we sat there waiting for our server to give us the check. We raced back to our room and packed up our things so we could head to our reservation with Kayak Lake Powell. This reservation was somewhat a nightmare. We booked with them for a later time, but quickly realized we needed to change it. When we did so, they sent a confirmation email for the next day which was not when we wanted to go. Just a few days prior they were able to change the reservation to the correct date and time. With the delay in the morning we were late to the reservation along with not knowing exactly where to go. Somehow the words, “We sent you a map of where to go via email” was never said by Kayak Lake Powell when we asked where to meet the guide… so we were late. I never thought to check my email for a map because I figured we wouldn’t have a problem finding where to go, but that’s ok we made it work.

Once we arrived to the marina we quickly realized how low Lake Powell is. If you have not heard, it is at an all time low. At the marina the water is so low that you cannot put your boat in. We had to hike down a large sandy hill down to the lake where the kayaks were waiting for us.

Down the lake we went towards Antelope Canyon.

Our original plan was to hike Antelope Canyon on this trip, but we learned that this tour goes to the LOWEST point in Antelope Canyon, not to be confused with Antelope Canyon which is on Native American land. To hike into the instagrammed and highly touristy area of Antelope Canyon you must book a tour with one of the Native American guided tours which have limited availability. We originally were going to do Antelope Canyon and then kayak Lake Powell, but when I saw this tour I thought we could hit two birds with one stone…we were wrong, but we still enjoyed it! As Kellen said, "I see this as a win".

As we hiked into the lowest point of Antelope Canyon, it started to get narrow and it was gorgeous!

Then we hiked back out and kayaked to the marina.

The four of us had fun racing each other where the other 4 people in our group were far behind taking photos. Thankfully our tour guide was pretty relaxed with us going ahead.

After this we headed to BirdHouse for lunch. Our tour guide recommended this so we decided to check it out. Everything was delicious!

Then we headed to Horseshoe Bend, but on the way we checked out the Glen Canyon Dam. This is 16 feet shorter than the Hoover Dam!

Horseshoe Bend is just off the highway and takes maybe 15 minutes at most to walk out to. This is an easy walk that is wheelchair accessible. There is a fee to enter which is $10 if I remember correctly. Be prepared for sand to blow onto your legs and arms as you walk out!

After enjoying the views we walked back to the truck and drove down to Flagstaff. Once we got to the Country Inn & Suites, the boys were ready for a nap. Meghan and I grabbed some coffee from the lobby and walked to Mother Road Brewing Company.

We sat and chatted until the boys showed up. We all walked to Diablo Burger which is a place I saved at some point on google maps as a place to go. We were not disappointed!

After that we headed across the street to Sweet Shoppe where we got ice cream, gum, and candy.

The next morning Meg had to catch a bus to Phoenix where she would meet up with her mom and aunt. We were so sad she was leaving us, but we ended up meeting her in Sedona!
