Williams, AZ

The heat in Lake Havasu City is no joke! It has been over 100 almost every day for the past month or more. Our friends Ruby and Blake invited us to visit Blake's parents who go up to Williams for the winter to get away from the Havasu heat. They stay on Bureau of Land managed land where you have to move your site every 14 days. It is dry camping, so there are not any bathrooms or electricity hook ups so be sure to bring a generator.

We all drove up there and Blake's parents made us a great dinner with bacon avocado burgers and mac n cheese! Aaron and I could not believe how only a couple hours from Havasu it was only in the 70's and there were trees surrounding us. After dinner, hung out by the propane fire and played some card games.

We were also super excited to use our new tent from REI that we bought for backpacking. We bought the REI Co-op Passage 3 with footprint. It is super easy to set up and is only 5 pounds!

The next morning we hung out, drinking tea and coffee while Blake's parents made us some awesome waffles in their 5th wheel. We all got our bellies full and headed out on the Razors! Blake's mom and dad have a 4-seater so they let us ride in the back with them. Ruby and Blake took their adorable pup Venture out on the Razors too. He even has his own goggles.

We drove the razors to Sycamore Falls and hiked down to check them out.

We then headed over to White Horse Recreation to check out the lake there.

Before I knew it, there was an 8 year old boy that Aaron was talking to who had been catching frogs, tad poles, and snakes. He put them into a bucket and was going to set them free later that day. Aaron went around looking for stuff with him...next thing we see is Aaron on all 4's in the weeds. Then he grabbed a snake with his bare hands.

His response was, "Look it just ate a fish!". We all laughed about it and the young boy was excited to have the snake Aaron caught join his little eco-system. We loaded back up in the Razors and headed to the Wild West Junction and had a bite to eat and a few drinks.

Blake's parents headed back to the camp site while we checked out a few of the places downtown.

We went to the Grand Canyon Wine Company and tasted a few of their wines before heading over to get ice cream.

Then we went to the Grand Canyon Brewing Company!

When we got back to the camp site we took the razors to the Dogtown Reservoir. It reminded me so much of the Adirondacks...except NO BUGS.

One of the greatest things about camping up there was that we never had any issues with bugs! I could not believe that I could just open the tent door and not have to worry about being attacked by mosquitoes!

That night, Blake's parents made us some steaks and salad for dinner before we headed down to shower. Aaron and I were really impressed at all the cooking they were able to do in their 5th wheel. We both are used to tent camping so it was nice having a real bathroom and a kitchen!

The next day we headed to the Grand Canyon! We packed up all our stuff and headed on up. First we stopped at Brewed Awakenings Coffee Co. for some breakfast. The quinoa oatmeal was delicious.

Williams is known as the Gateway to the Grand Canyon so it was only an hour drive, well 45 minutes with Aaron driving. Aaron had never been before so we were all excited for him, along with Venture the pup who had never been either.

Venture was tired and I think Aaron's fear of heights was greatly tested! We drove back and picked up Blake and Ruby's vehicle and headed towards Havasu. We stopped at a BBQ restaurant named Lulu Belle's and had a great meal.

We had such an awesome time with Blake, his parents, and Ruby (and Venture of course). We are so glad they invited us up there for a few days.
